XBRL Detect and Tag Feature

If you’ve created a destination link in a filing document from an item that’s already been tagged with XBRL information, and you want to apply the tagging information through that link, the XBRL Detect and Tag feature can help. It can also assist in the event that you’ve linked an item, and you can see the tagging information in the Detail Tagging window, but there’s no indication in Wdesk (normally represented by a green triangle in the lower left hand corner of a cell in a spreadsheet). Detect and Tag can refresh this information so that it displays once more. This article covers both scenarios.

Displaying XBRL for Text Links

NOTE: In both scenarios below, make sure you have shared all XBRL data (by clicking the Share XBRL button) as well as your workbook data (by clicking Share).

Scenario 1: A text link not displaying XBRL information

In your document, locate the value you wish you associate XBRL tagging information for. In this example, we’ll use the value 56,097,954, which is linked to a table, but isn’t displaying its tagged information.

When the value is clicked on and highlighted, the XBRL Detail Tagging box appears, but there’s no tagging information displayed in it.

Go to the XBRL tab and click the Detect button.

Wdesk will detect the links and tagging information, and apply it to the text (and also check all links in the active section). The text turns yellow to indicate the process has been successful.

Now you can click on the selected text, and the XBRL Detail Tagging box will appear, displaying the linked tagging information.

Click Add/Re-Add To XBRL Outline to re-associate the tagging information with the correct XBRL Taxonomy Section.

Displaying XBRL for Linked Cells

Scenario 2: A cell link not displaying XBRL information

Similar to the situation shown above, but let's say you have a cell with links that has XBRL data in it, but when you look at the linked data (in this example, 36,043), the green triangle in the lower left-hand corner indicating XBRL data is missing:

Go to the XBRL tab, and click the Detect button. The XBRL data will connect through the link, the green triangle will be displayed, and the XBRL information will appear in the XBRL Detail Tagging box.
