Customizing the Outline
EDGAR requires you to organize the XBRL outline a certain way. Most of the time, Wdesk manages these requirements for you. However, you may want to change how subsections are ordered, displayed, or even remove them from the outline. This article describes how to use Section Attributes to customize the XBRL outline subsections.

Modifying Outline Section Attributes
In Wdesk, open the XBRL Outline. Right-click a subsection in the outline that you want to customize and choose Edit.
In the XBRL Outline Subsection Attributes dialog box, use the following attribute settings to make changes to the subsection.
A. Outline Section Type reflects the type of section in your financial report: Disclosure, Statement, or Document. Wdesk uses this setting for determining the Table of Contents sort code. Some applications, such as the SEC Viewer, also rely on the section type to determine the order of the presentation.
B. Outline Subsection Type includes Statement Details or DEI, Parentheticals, and Levels 1–4 of the Explicit Tagging Levels. These tagging levels are defined in the EDGAR Filer Manual (vol. II, version 16) 6.6.16, 6.6.19, 6.6.20, and 6.6.22. Some applications, such as the SEC Viewer, rely on the subsection type as part of determining presentation order.
C. Table of Contents Sort Code presents the alphanumeric value of the sort code generated by Wdesk. This value is based on what you set for Outline Section Type, Outline Subsection Type, and User Editable Sort Code. For details about how this value is determined, see the EDGAR Filer Manual 6.7.12.
D. User Editable Sort Code allows you to specify the order between different presentation sections.
E. Table of Contents Label lets you specify how the section and subsection name appears in an XBRL viewing program. For example, a table of contents caption in the SEC Viewer.
F. Section Name shows the current parent of the selected subsection. To move the subsection to a different location in the XBRL Outline, select the Change Section check box and type the exact name of the destination section.
G. Subsection Name shows the current name of the selected subsection. This is created according to requirements defined in the EDGAR Filer Manual 6.24.20. You can edit the text in this field, but make sure to include specific patterns for the Policies, Tables, and Details subsections. Excluding the specific patterns will cause uncategorized facts in the SEC Viewer. If you think you might need to change this, contact your Customer Success Manager for assistance.
H. Label Preview shows the generated label for the subsection according to your settings for Table of Contents Label above.
I. Suppress in Filing excludes the XBRL Outline subsection from the filing documents. However, it does not exclude facts from the XBRL instance filing documents. In order to appropriately remove the facts from the XBRL instance filing documents, update the document and any non-printing/phantom sections to hide or remove all facts associated with the suppressed outline section.
Saving Your Changes
When you complete your changes, click Save. Wdesk requests locks on the XBRL outline sections that you modified. Make sure you Share XBRL changes.
Deleting Outline Subsections
While you can delete subsections from the XBRL outline, it is important to consider the following before deleting:
Consider suppressing the subsection instead of deleting it. This excludes the subsection from the filing documents, but keeps the XBRL outline intact for future use. Use the Suppress in Filing attribute in the outline properties to suppress a subsection.
If you decide to delete, make sure concepts in the subsection are not in use. Wdesk allows you to delete subsections while they are in still in use, which causes errors in your filing document.
To delete a subsection from the XBRL outline, you must first remove all of its child objects. Right-click each child object (heading abstracts, line item concepts, etc.) and select Delete. Click Yes to confirm you want to delete it.
After you delete all child objects, right-click the subsection and select Delete. Then click Yes to confirm you want to delete it.
