Tagging Text Blocks

Tagging Text Blocks

When you have notes or paragraphs that contain facts you tag them as text blocks.

Open your document in Wdesk and click the XBRL tab. Make sure XBRL is turned on. Select the paragraphs you want to tag as a text block and click the Block Tag button on the XBRL toolbar.

When you find the appropriate concept, click its green Accept plus sign to apply it.

NOTE: You can also drag and drop a concept from the XBRL Outline panel on the right of your document.

Click Search Dates/Date Ranges to find and select the appropriate reporting period date. Click Apply to add it to the text block fact.

The text block is fully tagged.

Adding Dimensions (Axis/Member) to Text Blocks

You can use dimensional tagging when you need to apply additional context to facts beyond the concept and date. Dimensional tagging uses axes and members to add this additional layer of context to an XBRL fact. This section describes how to add dimensions to text blocks.

Click the text block to open the XBRL Text Block dialog box. Click Actions and select Add Axis to begin dimensional tagging on the text block.

Changing Which Text to Include in a Text Block

You can easily change which text is part of the Text Block tag by moving the tag selection.

To do this, click the text block to open the XBRL Text Block dialog box. Click Move to show the selection handles at the beginning and end of the text block. The Move XBRL Text Block Tag also opens, which you can drag out of the way if it is covering the handles.
