This guide will teach you how to:
- navigate the History panel and work with document revisions
- use Blacklines
- access the history of a specific link
- view supporting documentation
The History panel is similar to checking previous versions of a document, but with more control and better searchability. By clicking the History icon on the right-hand side of the editing window, you can see each time the document was shared and who shared it.
The best feature of the History panel to someone who is fact-checking is the ability to filter revision history by user, section, or date. This makes it easy to find the origin of the exact change you're looking for.
Though users can always turn on track changes (in the Review tab) to show differences between the previous and current revision, creating a blackline allows you to compare any two revisions you want.
To create a blackline, go to the Review tab on your top toolbar. Click the Blackline icon and follow the prompts.
To access blacklines that your collaborators may have already made, open the Blacklines panel on the right side of the editing window. This can by filtered by user. You can open any previous blackline by choosing that option from the Actions dropdown menu.
If you're digging in to a very specific piece of data that's linked throughout your report(s), the Link Properties panel shows lots of useful information.
Locations - the source and destination(s) of the link selected. To navigate to a particular location, select it and click the blue arrow to the right.
History - a list of each time that link has changed values and the author those changes.
Overrides - if there are any precision-based overrides that affect that link, those are listed in the Overrides tab.
Depending on your account settings and license level, you and your team may also have the option to attach supporting documents to content in your Wdesk reports. SEC Support Binders are a typical example.
If you're wondering if supporting documents have been attached to the section you're looking at, click the paper clip on the right-hand side of the editing window.
If there are attachments, you'll immediately see orange indicators in the main document and a list of attachments in the right-hand panel.
To view an attachment, click the little blue arrow to the right of the attachment name.
