Optional Step - Freeze Filing Documents

Project Filing Wizard

This article describes how to Freeze Filing Documents. Freezing the filing documents prevents other team members from inadvertently making further modifications to the documents after they have been filed with the SEC.

NOTE: Freezing a document will freeze all linked elements included in the frozen document. This means that you will not be able to change the related linked elements in a non-frozen document.For example, you freeze your 10-K document, but not the supporting workbook. The workbook cells linked to the frozen 10-K will be frozen as well. All other elements will remain editable.

Freeze Filing Documents

To start this optional step of the Project Filing Wizard:

  1. Expand the Project Panel, click the Projects tab.
  2. On the Filing tab, select Freeze Filing Documents from the list of steps.
  3. Click the Start button.
  4. The Freeze Filing Document Wizard will display.

In the list of documents, check the items you wish to freeze. Click Check All to select all the documents in the list. When you are ready, click Freeze Selected Documents.

When Freeze Filing Documents is selected from the Projects panel, the freeze status of the documents in your project will be displayed. A closed lock indicates that the document is frozen.

An open lock indicates the documents that are not frozen.

If you attempt to close a frozen document, you will be asked if you want to Share or Discard your XBRL changes:

Thawing Documents

Thawing a document essentially unlocks it so that changes or modifications can be made.

NOTE: Only an Account Administrator has the permissions to thaw a document.

To thaw a document:

  1. On the Admin Panel, select Content.

  2. From the document list, click on the name of the document you wish to thaw.

  3. From this document detail page, click the Thaw Document button.
