You can format charts to customize the appearance and to clarify the data presented.
When you insert a chart, the default dimensions are 613 wide and 380 pixels tall, regardless of the size or orientation of your page. You can modify the size of the chart using the Width and Height boxes in the Chart Properties panel.
Spacing for Charts
The spacing feature allows you to determine the amount of space between the chart content and the border or edge of the chart.
- Setting the Spacing pixels to a lower number extends your chart closer to the border.
- Setting the Spacing pixels to a higher number create a larger space between the chart and the border.
Adjust the Spacing number as needed to customize the look of your chart.
You can set a border for the outer edge of your chart using the line color tool. If you click on the inner area of your chart, you can also set that line color independently.
Background Colors for Charts
To set the background color for each of these areas, click on the area where you’d like to have the color and then set the color using the background color tool in the Edit toolbar.
The color for the inner and the outer areas of your chart can be set independently if desired.
The chart Legend options are at the bottom of the Chart Properties panel. First, use the slider to choose whether or not to display a legend. If you are displaying a legend, you can choose the placement to have the legend at the Top, Bottom, Left, or Right of your chart.
You can also reverse the order of the items in your legend; adjust the padding and symbol width; and use Force Symbol Width to make bar, area and pie legend markers display as rectangles rather than squares. Finally, you can further customize your chart by setting the Item Distance between items in your legend.
